this update is mostly for archive / historical purposes so that it can
be referred to in the future, for anyone wishing to understand why
software libre is an important integral part of a business model. most
notably i managed to find that article about the intel / valve-steam
collaboration. also really important was paul's post as it gave a
different perspective.

i'm tracking down leads so that when i go to visit allwinner i can
propose a few things for them.

That is a great post: very comprehensive, very readable. It gives people the
opportunity to actually understand a bit more about just about all of the
factors involved.

Paul

P.S. Sadly, I think some people don't want to understand and/or think we all
have enough cash lying around to fund competitive silicon ourselves and/or do
endless respins of the concept with their favourite processor of the moment,
as if it were some kind of rich man's hobby as opposed to being a genuine
initiative to further Free Software and libre hardware adoption.
